What it Means to be a Recruiter in 2022

The role of a recruiter is one that has recently seen transformation; the COVID pandemic has changed a great many industries and the recruitment sector is no exception. Many recruiters have needed to develop new skills or have been forced to change their processes altogether in order to best cater to differing requirements and higher demand. Below are some of the factors that have impacted recruiters in 2022 and are expected to play a major role in the sector going into the future.

Employment VS Vacancies

More people than ever are now in employment with unemployment close to 2018’s record low. In line with the low unemployment numbers, there are also more job vacancies than ever with many businesses looking to reinstate their full teams after working smaller staff numbers during COVID. This is very much a blessing as well as a curse. Role availability means that candidates have more options than ever but with so many already being in jobs, finding high-quality candidates can be a major challenge. In order to find candidates that are suitable for job roles, recruiters have to be flexible in their approach as the competition for top talent is fiercer than at any point over the past few years.

Focus on Diversity and Inclusion

Many businesses of all shapes and sizes are now realising the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace. There are now many businesses that have a diversity and inclusion strategy in place and look specifically for people from different walks of life in order to bring fresh perspective and skill sets to their teams. For internal recruiters, team composition is now a key consideration and it’s vital that teams are built in a way in which promotes diversity and inclusion.

Applicant Tracking Systems

Tech is another addition that is playing a major part in managing day-to-day recruitment processes for 2022. Automation is taking precedent and many systems look to simplify the more administrative aspects of the recruitment role in order to improve efficiency and allow team members to allocate more focus to value add activities such as carrying out interviews. Applicant Tracking Systems are an essential part of recruitment functions with many businesses adopting systems to improve on their talent sourcing, interview scheduling, candidate interaction, and more. We anticipate that ATS will continue to have a direct impact on recruitment efficiencies going forward and as more businesses adopt it, these systems will gain additional features and tools to make their use across the recruitment process even more streamlined.
