2023 is already looking like an exciting year for in-house recruiters and talent teams, with several trends emerging that could revolutionise the way we work and the results we get. From smarter automation to virtual job fairs, here are some of the top recruitment trends to watch out for in 2023:

Smarter Automation in Recruitment 

The use of recruitment technology continues to change how recruitment processes are managed and automated. Smarter automation has the potential to help recruiters find better candidates more quickly and efficiently. With technology as the enabler, it should assist smarter automation and free up time for recruiters to focus their efforts on other aspects of hiring, that might require more of the human touch.

Applicant tracking systems (ATS) will need to be more agile and insightful and support user-lead system changes. Systems that are adaptable in a live environment without affecting your day-to-day operations will lead the way. For example, often the way you set up a recruitment system needs to adapt and change so it is fit for purpose. Maybe to support changes in legislation that require additional information to be obtained from candidates, a change in brand or EVP, business structure, or policy change. By leveraging a data-driven approach, recruiters can gain valuable insights into every aspect of
recruitment to make informed decisions. Furthermore, by analysing trends in hiring data over time, you will get a better understanding of the complete recruitment lifecycle. As well as the usual time and cost recruitment metrics, reporting on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and measuring Candidate Satisfaction are key themes this year.

Virtual Job Fairs and Video Interviews 

The pandemic presented an opportunity for recruiters to take advantage of virtual job fairs and video interviewing. This looks set to continue as recruiters widen their net in the search for candidates. Virtual job fairs allow employers to reach a wider audience of candidates that may fit with more flexible working policies and video interviewing gives candidates control over the process - enabling them to answer the questions at a time convenient to them. 

Using platforms that support remote recruiting activities can also reduce costs associated with attending physical events. Furthermore, virtual job fairs offer a way to connect with passive candidates and reach those who may not attend physical events due to location or other factors.

Other online processes such as video interviews will become even more widely spread in 2023. Video interviews enable recruiters to review resumes, ask questions, and get to know candidates without having them come into the office for an in-person interview. It's especially useful for companies impacted by location and it allows recruiters to break down the barriers of engaging with talent, at scale.
