The 4 Facets of a Successful Recruitment Policy

Recruitment plays a pivotal role in any business. Getting the right hires in at the right time ensures that your business is better placed to meet its goals; this isn’t always as easy as it sounds. A recruitment policy is a framework that looks to outline hiring strategies and practices to promote consistency, transparency, as well as compliance and is an integral part of creating an efficient hiring process. As a part of designing an efficient recruitment policy, there are four stages that should be considered.

Pre-Hire

Key to attracting a high-quality talent pool and setting a clear pathway for your recruitment team, pre-hire essentially outlines your goals for the process and how you’re aiming to meet these. Key considerations include:

  • What is your recruitment and selection process?
  • Responsibilities for HR, Recruitment & Talent teams
  • What are your company's principles and how will the process be designed to meet it?

Hiring

Every business will have their own version of the hiring process and it’s important that your own reflects industry requirements as well as the type of role on offer. There’s a good chance that competitors within your field will have a similar recruitment process on account of trying to attract a similar skillset. It’s important that the hiring process of your recruitment policy is designed to be as streamlined as possible in order for your recruitment team to have the best chance to find the right candidate to fill a vacancy. Ensure that your hiring process is fair and transparent and that there is a clear process in place where your recruitment team can review the talent pool to identify the best candidates.

Tools

Recruitment tools are a massive benefit to recruitment and talent teams and a great way to track candidates as well as take care of the administrative tasks associated with the hiring process. Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) are just one of the tools frequently in use when hiring. If you carry out internal recruitment, the use of an ATS can help to simplify the process; whether you’re currently using them or not, they are proven to have helped many large, medium, and smaller-scale businesses improve their recruitment process and are certainly a factor worth considering.

Standards

It’s important that your business has clear standards set out when recruiting. This isn’t just relating to Diversity & Inclusion but also promoting best practice in recruitment and selection, providing clarity around providing staff with opportunities for career development, your advertising policy or referee policy.
