We've been banging the mobile drum for a few years at Eploy and with a recent surge in clients interested in mobile responsive candidate portals, we've taken a look at our data to see if mobile really is as important as we've been saying.
A leading job site recently shared that their job search data showed nearly 50% of all job seekers were looking for and applying for jobs on a mobile device during June 2014 and the significant growth we have seen on our clients' proves this, job seekers expect to be able to do everything on a mobile that they can do on a desktop.
Comparing average monthly figures from 2013 and 2014 we've seen a huge increase of 190% in applications made from a mobile device and 196% in mobile logins on our clients' candidate portals. We're only half way through 2014 and yet the number of mobile logins and applications is almost equal to the whole of 2013.
Not only is mobile usage increasing but it's increasing to the detriment of desktop devices, we've seen that average monthly log ins on a mobile device have increased to nearly a quarter of all log ins, up from 17% in 2013 and the percentage of job applications made on a mobile device has quadrupled.
In terms of Eploy clients, the engineering sector has seen the most significant growth with the monthly average for mobile log ins and mobile applications doubling in 2014.
Candidate portals for our University clients have always seen high traffic, built to service students looking for part time work or graduate opportunities it's unsurprising that the newest generation of job seekers are searching online on their smartphones and tablets, yet the growth has still been significant with monthly averages for log ins and applications on mobiles doubling in 2014.
Interestingly, mobile has been considered a priority for in-house recruiters with the emphasis on employer brand and delivering a positive candidate experience, yet we have seen a greater increase in mobile activity on our agency candidate portals proving that job seekers don't discriminate, if they're looking for a job they expect to be able to do so on a mobile device.
